The Discoveree 2009 Planning Committee will be accepting applications for qualified Girl Scouts in grades 7-12 to assist at this day-long adult training event, to be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Alvarado Middle School in Union City. This is an excellent opportunity to earn service hours.
In an effort to match individual Girl Scouts’ skills and talents with workshop leaders whose needs are similar, we ask that you complete an application and indicate your strengths and skills. The Committee makes no guarantee that individuals will be assigned to help in a specific workshop, however. This is a service project and a great deal of your time will be spent getting workshop leaders and their equipment to and from their classrooms. You may have some “quiet time”, so you may wish to bring homework projects, a book, or something else to occupy your time. This is a great opportunity to meet other Girl Scouts, make new friends, share goals, and learn about one another’s activities and interests.
Please fill out the application and return it with a recent photo and a letter of recommendation from your troop leader by December 20, 2009. You will be notified of the date and time of your interview. We will conduct interviews by phone. You must participate in a phone interview in order to be considered for the Assistant position, even if you have been requested by a specific Workshop Leader to help solely in his/her workshop(s).
It is very important that a parent/guardian be available to talk to the Discoveree Committee member conducting the phone interview so he/she is fully aware of the expectations and rewards of being an Assistant at Discoveree 2010.
Mail your application, photo and letter of recommendation by December 20, 2009

All communication regarding being a Discoveree Assistant must come from the interested girl. Contact from parents/adults will not be accepted. This is an opportunity for girls to prove their maturity in handling all communication regarding the event. We understand that girls have busy lives, but it is also an opportunity for them to grow in their ability to apply, interview and communicate with adults regarding a service project “job”. It will help them to develop important skills for later in life.
We look forward to sharing this exciting opportunity with you.
