What to Expect

We have a dedicated team of volunteers working to plan an exciting week for you. We'll have off site trips, onsite workshops, evening entertainments, and many other surprises in store for you.

You'll enjoy views of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. There will be lots of opportunities to get to know your neighbors and sister campers from all over the world.

TreasureIsland2008 is partnering with Girl Scouts Save the Bay to bring you a fun-filled day on Saturday.

Participating adults and girls are being asked to pay the same fees as they will be enjoying the same great facilities, workshops, off sites and other camp amenities. We are asking each patrol to maintain the adult/girl ratios as outlined in SafetyWise.

Off sites and Workshops?

Although the details are still being worked on, this is what we can share at this time:

Off sites will range in price from $35.00 to $150.00 depending on choices the participants make. We are currently looking into having many options available. Off site choices could include a trip to Alcatraz and other San Francisco points of interest to a day trip to Yosemite.

Workshop costs will range from no additional fees to $50.00. Choices could include a painting workshop by a local artist to a sailing lesson on San Francisco Bay.

Participating patrols will be sent information in January regarding the many options available along with information on registering for them and specific cost information.

Will we be camping in tents?

Yes! This event will be for tent camping only. We are looking at having rental equipment available. If you think that you will need to rent equipment, please complete this Equipment Survey so that we will have an idea of what we need to have available. More information about rental equipment will be available in the future. This is only a survey and does not guarantee equipment at this time nor does it obligate you to rent equipment from us.

You may need to install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to complete the Equipment Survey. AcrobatReader

What size will the camping sites be?

Remember, we are camping on an island and have limited space available! We can guarantee that all sites are flat! At this time we are looking at the average site being 30x30 for a patrol of 10 girls and 2 adults. Adjustments will be made for larger patrols.

Groceries?

We're working out details with Safeway (http://safeway.com) to have a number of pre-paid, pre-ordered deliveries during the week. Each patrol will be able to use the Safeway web site, select food and arrange for deliveries and payment online. You can use the site for planning purposes; however, please don't schedule any deliveries at this time. At this point we're looking at deliveries on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. More information will be available as we get closer to the event.

Will we have opportunities to purchase lunch at off sites?

There will be some opportunities for purchasing lunches during off sites. For example, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk has food available for purchase. Where these opportunities exist, you will be notified so that you can make appropriate plans for your patrol.

Will our patrol be able to make our own excursions into San Francisco or neighboring areas?

Unfortunately this won't be possible. Once you are checked in to the Camporee you will not be able to leave the Camporee, except for planning activities with the Camporee. You are welcome to plan additional activities before or after the Camporee on your own.

Is the Camporee open to all registered Girl Scouts and Girl Guides?

Yes! All registered Girl Scouts and Girl Guides 13-18 years of age or entering the 8th-12th grades are welcome to attend.

Camp Choir

We are very excited to share that Melinda Caroll will be joining the TreasureIsland 2008 Camporee!  She will be leading our camporee choir.  Melinda and the choir will be performing together during the camporee. Practices will be scheduled during the camporee, and participants will be notified of the time and location. The choir is open to all interested girls; there will be no try-outs.

Volunteers? More than 2 adults?

Important – A Camporee volunteer application must be completed for all adult participants in a patrol beyond the number of adults required by Safety Wise girl/adult ratio standards.
Each patrol must bring two leaders. We are trying to maximize the number of girls who can attend so we request that you bring the minimum number of adults necessary to supervise your group. By the time girls are Cadette age and have finished 7th grade, they should be mature enough to travel with only two adults. We realize that some special circumstances may require a third leader, such as groups above 24 girls, troops traveling by car or other special needs within the troop. Adult participants beyond the Safety Wise girl/adult ratio needed for your group will be expected to attend as Camporee volunteers.
We know the Camporee sounds like a lot of fun. Parents and other troop adults would often like to attend with their daughter. Remember, this is an older girl event. We try to limit the number of additional adults in order to allow girls more independence within a safe environment. The girls will be expected to be able to find their way around the event area and attend activities apart from their patrol and leaders, with a group of girls and adults they do not know. If girls are not ready to travel without their parents, then they are not mature enough to attend a Camporee. If you bring a third adult who is a trained leader, that person can apply at the time of registration to attend as a Camporee volunteer.
If extra adults want to travel to California with your group and tour the area while your group attends the Camporee, we will be happy to provide you with a list of local lodging options. Only registered participants will be allowed to attend Girl Scout activities on site during the Camporee.

Note: Treasure Island is located in the heart of San Francisco Bay. "The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco." (This quote has been attributed to Mark Twain, but until the attribution can be verified, the quote should not be regarded as authentic. However, the idea is what we want to pass along to our participants, although we are anticipating fantastic weather, you will need to plan for fog and wind. Layers are definitely highly recommended!

Information will be added as plans are finalized.
